【Q13】What is the difference between buffing and electropolishing?

diaphragm

Polished products

"Buffing" and "Electropolishing" are polishing methods for the surface of the wetted part of the valve (the part where the fluid comes into contact) to smooth and improves cleanability and prevent fluid contamination caused by adhesion of foreign matters, rusts, microorganisms etc.

Those polishings are available for our Bioclean Diaphragm Valves and other one used in sanitary piping.
In case of enquires or orders, please specify the polishing methods (Buffing or Electropolishing) and polishing portion (inside and/or outside of wetted parts).

What is "Buffing"

This is a mechanical polishing method that the surface is finished to a mirror surface by buffing (blade cloth). We use grain size #400 as the standard.

What is "Electropolishing"

Electrochemical polishing method.
When only buffing (#400) is applied, even if the apparent surface roughness is good, the surface still has fine irregularities with acute angle.
By applying electropolishing, the cleanability is further improved. Another advantage is that the oxide film formed during electropolishing improves corrosion resistance.
